Opening positions:

Dr. Jahangiri’s research group at the University of Rhode Island (URI) is seeking one/two highly motivated and talented PhD students to join a dynamic research team. The appointment is expected to start immediately and not later than Fall 2025.

Research Areas:

  • Fluid-structure interactions.
  • Structural health monitoring, damage diagnosis and prognosis.
  • Structural dynamics, smart sensing and vibration control.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering, civil engineering, ocean engineering, or related fields.
  • Familiarity with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and finite element modeling (FEM).
  • Programming experience with MATLAB, Python, or other languages.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

What we offer:

We are offering one/two fully funded Ph.D. positions in the Department of Mechanical, Industrial, and Systems Engineering at URI, commencing immediately and no later than Fall 2025. Priority will be given to candidates who can start immediately and meet the qualifications. The position comes with a Research Assistantship (RA) and a Teaching Assistantship (TA).
